Help fund a campaign that answers to you
The Matt Millar campaign runs in the open. Every plank of my platform is public and open-source. My principles and planks are spelled out, and they are unwavering. A contribution does not buy influence or a position I have not already published. It just helps me get the platform in front of more of Ward 9.
Every dollar goes to the work you can see: signs on lawns, literature at doors, and keeping things running under the hood. It is run lean, every dollar is accounted for, and it is filed publicly. That is the standard I will hold at City Hall, and it starts here.
Ways to give
Interac e-Transfer
Send your e-transfer to:
matt@ward9.online- Check the eligibility rules below and make sure they apply to you.
- Send your Interac e-Transfer to matt@ward9.online.
- In the e-transfer message, include your full name and full mailing address. Ontario law requires me to record them.
I review every e-transfer by hand and accept it only once I have confirmed you are an eligible donor. Nothing is auto-deposited. If anything does not line up, I decline the transfer and it goes straight back to you, untouched. A little more work on my end, and the right way to keep the books clean.
Credit or debit card
Card donations through a secure online page are on the way. Check back shortly, or use e-transfer in the meantime.
In person
At a campaign event or by arrangement, you can give by cheque (any amount up to the $1,200 limit) or cash (Ontario law caps cash donations at $25; anything more must be by cheque or e-transfer). I record your name and address, confirm eligibility, and give you a receipt. Email matt@ward9.online to arrange.
Before you give: who is eligible
Ontario's Municipal Elections Act sets clear rules for municipal campaigns. By donating, you confirm that:
- You are an individual who lives in Ontario. (If your spouse is not an Ontario resident, they may still give to this campaign only.)
- You are giving your own money, not funds from someone else, a business, or an organization.
- Your total contributions to this campaign are $1,200 or less. That is the legal maximum from any one person.
A few things to know:
- No tax receipt. Contributions to a municipal campaign are not tax-deductible, and I cannot issue charitable tax receipts. This is true for every municipal candidate.
- Your name and address are required. Ontario law requires me to record them. If your total giving is more than $100, your name and address appear on the campaign's financial statement, which is filed with the City and posted publicly.
- Where it goes. Every contribution is deposited into the dedicated campaign bank account and spent only on the campaign, within the legal spending limit.
If you are the candidate or the candidate's spouse, a separate, higher self-funding limit applies; please note that in your e-transfer message.
Other ways to help
Money is not the only way, and for many people it is not the best way. A lawn sign, an hour at a door, or simply telling your neighbours carries real weight in a ward race. Email me and I will find a fit.
Thank you for backing a campaign that keeps faith with the people who fund it.
